<B>We're pleased to announce that the Froogle Product Feed for BVCommerce 2004 has been upgraded to version 3.0. This upgrade includes changes that you may have seen regarding how Google handles the Froogle feed system. I will outline the basics and reasoning for the upgrade below:

[color=black> </FONT>

* There's a new administrative interface for your Froogle account, and it's now located at [/color][color=black>http://base.google.com

* Google has changed many of the field names, and the new system accounts for these changes.

* Some fields are no longer in use, and have been removed from the system.

* A new keywords field has been added, and the system accounts for this by using the META Keywords field already in each BV product.

* A few small bugfixes have been taken care of with regard to feed failures or rejections.

* A number of performance improvements have been made.

Al,

Are you creating a Froogle feed for BVC5?

Yes Chris, I will be once it's released and I have some time to build a better system around it. I'm looking to make a lot of improvements to how it works in general. As well, I'll be offering up some free and/or discounted upgrades (depending on when purchased) to those who own the 2004 versions.

Let me know if you have further questions!

Yes, they've made another batch of changes since last summer's change to Google Base. I'm currently investigating the best way to implement them.

Yep, I think froogle is now going to require several more fields. I got the same email. It said end of feb 2007 my feed would no longer work unless I start submitting the new required fields. Any idea on if/when you'll have an update AL ?

Hi folks.

I hate to do this, buy my personal issues are simply taking up every ounce of free time I have right now. I think I'm finally going to have to shut things down temporarily until I can get back on my feet again.

I absolutely hate having to do this, and I regret the state that this part of my business has been reduced to...and how it affects all of my customers. Unfortunately, I have to choose my priorities...and in this case, there is no question as to what I should (and need to) do.

My deepest apologies for this. I hope to have things back in order sometime in the future, but at this point I'm not really sure what that means. Thanks for your support and patronage over the past few years...

Al

Hi Al,

Sorry to hear of your personal complications. Would you be willing to share the source code so that I can retain an other developer to make the necessary changes to your froogle feed?

Re: New Froogle feed.
Since Al might be out for a while does anyone have the string to do a query for the Froogle Feed for BV 4, I have enterprise with SQL Query Analyzer.

Thanks,

John

John,
It's really not as simple as just running a SQL query. In particular, the fields must be stripped of any HTML code. It would be nice if Al would provide the source code, at least to those who purchased the product. Count me among the interested.

It’s a shame that we’re left out of the loop now that Froogle has changed their format, I’ve got 1800 products that I can’t submit as a result. I’ve contacted Andy Miller from Structured Solutions and asked him to get in touch with Al, as of today I don’t think he has been able to reach AL to get the source code and make the necessary additions. If enough of us request Andy Miller to setup a Froogle feed he might be inclined to setup a feed tool. You can reach Andy @ [email protected]

Al, sorry to hear. Take care of what is important.

personally, I have no use for the source code for a product that doesn't work. if making the existing code work was easy, it would have probably been done.

for existing owners of the tool, I believe that the tool executes the following stored proc: bvc_MerchantFeedProducts_s - so there is your SQL query.

this of course does not meet existing google base specs and we have been bombarded this week with feeds from new clients who are affected by the changes.

For those whose feeds have not dropped, you should note that your position will fall if you are not submitting the proper product type or your are submitting filler product type specific attributes.

Bottom line is, the system works just fine and could certainly be modified to handle the new feeds. I was pretty clear that my reasoning for not moving forward was personal and time related, not because the "product [source code] doesn't work" or that it's not easy to modify.

The people who have purchased my product have received a good, stable, and solid product. Unfortunately, I am unable to continue to support it due to personal reasons...which is probably more upsetting to me than anyone else.

As well, the source code is not up for distribution. There's a lot more to it than just a stored procedure. Sorry.

I received an email from Andy, but...as stated...I've been insanely busy and have not been able to get back to him yet. I'm going to reply to him now, though. His offer was more to help me get my code modified...an incredibly generous offer, I might add. He's a stand-up guy for sure.

Thanks for understanding, folks. Please let me know if I can answer any further questions.

Al,

I understand you declined Andy’s offer to help revise your Froogle Feed, those of us who have Purchased your product are very affected by the inability to upload their feed. Isn’t there some way you could update your product? I don’t mind paying for the upgrade.

Mindful of this issue, what are some of you 2004.7 storeowners doing to create your froogle feeds now? I see BV5 has a froogle feed maker included (I think).

Well, unfortunately, I am not doing anything about it right now and hoping to see a solution or an update soon !!
I would also love to know what other 2004.7 store owners are doing !
Thanks for sharing !
