I was privileged to play with this add-on early on and have been extremely impressed with Aram's work ethics and skills as a developer.

Every BV store should implement this add-on ASAP; it's definitely a must-have!

Prokat, I see your add-on is licensed per domain. Will it work on staging sites using IP's http://216.82.69.132/ or Local http://192.168.0.56 ?

Hello Kman,

It will work only when you access the site using those IPs.

If you access a site using IPs or domain names for which you don't have SmartURL license, the site will display regular BV URLs.

Thank you,

Aram

prokat,
the provided link does not give much description.

a few questions:

is only the extension is configurable?
is this running as a filter?
is destination url overridden with your code ?
i see no category IDs - what if you have 6 categories that have the same category name but are all unique categories?

after going to isapi rewrite, and embedding category names, product names, and so on, we actually noticed no change in google and rankings.
how can this help me beyond isapi rewrite?

Hi Prokat,

What kind of load does it add to the server? Do the number of products effect it?

Regards,

James

James, we haven't seen any noticable load from the installations running. Number of cats and products are all over the place.

Prokat ran a load test against a live site on one of our servers and was able to pound the connections without issue.

We have a lot of internal links, I have included a sample page that shows what I mean.

Will this software break these links??
Thanks,

The old url with the productid will always work. So you don't have to make a mad rush to get them fixed. It would be beneficial to change them over though, as soon as you can.

Robert,

There's a reason why it's called SmartURL :)

Install in 5-10 minutes and you'll be blown away. Worth way more than what you're paying!!!!!

None of those links will break, they'll actually be updated and you'll go WHAAAA, how'd they do that?!?!?

You'll want to be careful to remove any of the old style dynamic (id) links asap. You don't want Google or any other search engine seeing 'duplicate content' on your site!

I don't understand what you mean by duplicate links?

Does the software only update the links created by the site like the page urls?

Does it ignore html links in my custom pages and product descriptions?
Thanks,

No worries Robert. Any non-BV links will work as they always have. Your current dynamic BV links will always work as they had before.

We are quite fanatical when it comes to search engines and SEO in general, unless you reinstall this several times with different settings (creating another set of links) you will have only benefits from using it.

BTW - the warning above is misleading. You can't actually "remove" any dynamic BV links, they and BV will always run as it did regardless of using the tool or not. All the tool does is take the called out BV link to a product or category and rewrites it based on the settings you choose when you set it up.

The only way this will cause issues if if you get carried away with your naming convention. The magic to that whole end of it is something we don't discuss in the forums. ;-)

So to be clear, I will not need to re-do any of my links? And there will be no "duplicate content", whatever "duplicate content" means. Did you take a look at the smaple page I posted, we have lots of pages like that, and I need to be sure.
Thanks,

If Google has already indexed a dymanic page productID=10 for example.

If it then becomes keyword.htm then the old page will stay in google - it never ever forgets, this will then be seen as duplicated content.

Our site has already been indexed, so will this product hurt my rankings since google will see all our links as duplicate?
Thanks,

They are two totally different types of links and so shouldn't create an 'duplicate content' issue with Google.

If you are inconsolably frightened of Google, you could always create a robots.txt file telling the spider not to crawl your original BV links.
