This should be...

Allow visitors into specific areas via:

Membership in a club as in Book of the Month...Potato Chip of the Week.

User groups such as price groups, wholesaleers/resellers

Members of an organization such as Red Hats
* Use of a 'key'... Golf/Country Club for off-site member-only promotionals

More?
Optimists invent airplanes,
Pessimists buy parachutes.

To be really useful, particularly for B2B sites, it needs to be more than that.

Looking at it from a business requirements perspective, we need as to cater for Public, Customers & Partners.

Public access requires no login obviously.

Customers would have access to additional content via custom pages accessed from a menu option that requires a login using their unique customer (or account) number.

Partners (eg: resellers / distributors) would have access to another set of custom page links which may or may not (probably does) consist of what customers can access plus more. This would work in conjunction with price groups etc.

If not already signed in, Customers or Partners would be presented with a login page. Unauthorized browsers would see an polite error message explaining why they can't access the content behind the link etc.

You've achieved a simple form of this by using this forum and providing custom access to section of the forum...but it's a bit clunky and most people would prefer to access their content from the site.

We would love to see this feature added. We would use for reasons discussed below as well as for our corporate gifting customers. They need to have their own password protected categories and pages.
