What would you be willing to pay for a theme?

I'd love a fresh start theme.. It's an excellent start, and a version for 1024 would be great..

Matt, the silence is deafening.

This is the main reason why there has never been a house full of "stock themes". It takes a designer a LOT of time to build a theme, a LOT of time to make it compatible and a LOT of time to get it right for the specific user.

Back when we sold themes, we found that the perceived value was 99.00. So you sell them the theme (that is still generic by design) for 99.00 and that is to pay for the work it took to create it. Then over the next 3 months you are barraged with questions about how to do this, how to do that, can you figure out what we did wrong etc. All the while they feel entitled to the 10K design they needed to begin with because they paid you 99.00. You really can't win unless you're willing to give the hours to create their design free.

Because of this we stopped selling themes and we must have at least 100 of them kicking around between BVC2004 and BVC5. Now for clients if we have one sitting around that they like, we give it away free. For non clients we just don't talk about them anymore.

The silence (here at least) has more to do with the limited scope of the potential audience. New users here at the forum are few at any one instant, and fewer still are on the forum AND need someone to do this for them (our stores are already running), and fewer still understand that this is something that even needs to be 'done'.

I'd have paid $350.00 to 600.00 to have had my theme 'done' for me (alterations to Painted Paper, not from scratch) had I known how much work was involved. Tough to know this without getting to know this the hard way. I'm glad to have had Painted Paper to start with and one of the members here helping me along - for a fee.

Noah is correct that the theme will be blamed for EVERYTHING that goes wrong. I'd stay away from anything close to customizing per-user unless there is a much stronger relationship already in place, say development time/support at $X/hr, etc.

Themes are never really 'finished', are they? Still tweaking mine.....

I'd be interested in a FreshStart Theme and (especially) a 1024 version. I'd be willing to pay up to say $500 for this but appreciate Noah's comments.

Sorry if it's a stupid question... what's "1024 version"?
