Attempting to perform a fairly big import of products, using the Import-Export tool, and running into the problem where Categories aren't imported into BVC.

What I'd like to avoid is having to use the admin tool to manually select the category for every single product, so I'm looking at how to do this directly in SQL (this site's still running on localhost, so it's quick & easy to work on large SQL changes).

Question: Can I do this by just adding the appropriate records to the bvc_ProductXCategory table? My concern is that assigning a category to a product might do something in addition to just creating a record the bvc_ProductXCategory table that I don't know about.

Thanks!

No, that should be all that you need to do.

Aaron, thanks for the verification!

That gives me the ability to perform a reasonable workaround (and saves my weekend too!)

I guess one other thing to remember is that you will need to increment the sort order field for products in the same category. If the sort order value is the same for every product, you will not be able to manually sort them in the admin.

Thanks for that update on SortOrder Aaron!

I was working on adding those records this morning, and was just puzzling over what to do with that SortOrder field.

I was just about to post a "what's the SortOrder field do" question here, and viola, you'd beaten me to the punch! You've saved me a good chunk of investigation time!
