If you have already installed the migration tool, then you only need to run it in order to get the updated version. If you have yet to install the migration tool then place access the url below.

Michael,

Which version of BV Commerce are you running. The latest migration tool (5.0.0.21) will only work with service pack 2.

Prior to running this tool, you should backup the database, or make a copy of the database. I say this, as I just ran the tool on a local site that I have been converting over from BV2004, and I decided to run the new tool in hopes that it would bring over the shared choices, along with the products, as the first version did not. After running the new tool, with the delete option selected to delete all data from the current local database, the products failed to come over from BV2004, and therefore my BV5 database now does not have any products. I have submitted a support ticket, but I just wanted to let all know that you should backup the database prior to running the new tool, just in case. I ran the tool many times to see if I was nuts, but the same result every time. I even checked for relationship issues in the database, but could not find any problems.

It is always a good idea to make a full database and store backup before installing any patches, running imports, etc. It only takes a couple of minutes and it could save you hours/days/weeks of work should something go wrong.

I was wondering if anyone was able to import all shared choices. Actually, I have all off them imported but I need to go to the each product and Add Shared Choice individually/manually which is the big headache. Is it a bug?

I only had Radio Button List shared choice, and that is what I was having trouble with, in that those shared choices were being converted to Radio Button Image List, but the last updated fixed the problem. I have never had the problem with the shared choice not being associated with a product item after the import, so with other types of shared choices, it may in fact be an issue. You may need to submit a support ticket. Look at the log file, and see if anything catches your eyes, like errors, or the inablity to save data.

Quick question - What happens if you run the migration tool more than once? Will it over-write the already imported files and orders or will it just append the ones you don't have?

I ran the migration tool to populate a site that I'm working on for testing purposes, but now I want to "update" that site with the newest orders before going live with it...

In a post dated April 27th, Marcus indicated that orders will never be deleted by the tool, but rather if an order already exists, it will merely be over written, with new orders being imported.

Just to clarify, orders are NEVER overwritten. If an order already exists it will be skipped

Does the same behavior exist for products?

Yes, products are never overwritten if they exists. Same with categories and users too.
