I have downloaded the BV Commerce 5 Import/migration tool and downloaded documentation for it and do not know how to do this.

I type in my site url

I type in user name and password that I use to log into BV Admin 5.

I hit the Import/Update tool

and for some reason this does not work?

Can anyone who has done this before help me with this or offer a really sound solution to this?

thank you very much BV5 forum members,

Dan

Is your user assigned to the "web services access" role in each store? That is required.

Noah,

It is now. I did not know that it had to have that.

So where do I go from there now.

Noah,

I did this, is this all that needs to be done?

I noticed that the columns in the Products Table for BV4 Database are not equal to that of the BV5 Database Product Table's columns.

How will BV4 Database content Transition smoothly in BV5 Database? Because all I would like to do is move product table from BV4 to BV5 product table.

if you go this url(below), you will see what I am talking about in this earlier post that no one replied to (It will show a breakdown of what columns are in BV4 and what columns are in BV5):

http://forums.bvcommerce.com/default.aspx?f=89&m=55162

Could this possible cause problems importing date from BV4 into BV5.

Not sure on this. We run the migrations for clients all the time without issue.

The only time we have run into issues is when the BVC2004 site/DB is heavily customized or when the catalog has over 250,000 SKU's in it.

Have you asked your host to run the migration for you?

I am not running it on any host servers. I am running it on my local machine.

I have both the bv4 and bv5 database on SQL SERVER 2005 EXPRESS EDITION. I have manually tried to move bvc_products table in bv4 to bv5 manually; but have had no success.

I am trying to use the migration tool but do not understand how it works.

I open the migration tool.

I enter my site url

I enter my username

I enter my password

I hit import/ update button and select my bv4 database .mdb file to import.

I then get the results panel and I only get the option to close window or save the log to a .txt file.

I feel that something is wrong.

I have included a screen shot of what I am doing.

I really do not understand this tool at all; all that I know that it is supposed to do is import categories/products/users of bv4 database to bv5 database.

Could you help Noah...I have been stuck on this for days.

I used it on our demo store.

I think this is what Noah used when he moved the information to our lstore on his server.

Matt,

I downloaded the Migration tool you suggested and I created a test store site and database server. I then used the migration tool, after it migrated BV4 products to BV5 products table, I opened the Database and viewed the Products in the BV5 Database and discovered that the entire table, columns, data migrated over successfully. I think just a few records did not come over correctly. But all in all , this is what I was looking for.

Thank you very much for you time and help in this matter. I truly value and appreciate the knowledge.

On seperate note: I know you move test sites to live sites, So I wondering How I move my test site to a Windows 2003 server OS with IIS 6.0 I believe and connect remote to SQL Enterprise or SQL Server 2005 Express?

Could you help me with this?
